Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Pomodoro Technique? +
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo. You work in focused 25-minute intervals (called pomodoros) separated by 5-minute short breaks. After every 4 pomodoros, you take a longer 15-minute break. This cycle helps maintain focus and prevents burnout.
Can I change the timer durations? +
Yes. Click the Settings button to customize the work duration, short break duration, and long break duration to any values you prefer. Your settings are saved in your browser so they persist between visits.
Will the timer notify me when it ends? +
Yes. When a session ends, the timer plays an audio notification using the Web Audio API. No plugins or downloads are required. Make sure your browser tab is not muted for the sound to play.
Does the Pomodoro Timer work in the background? +
Yes. The timer uses timestamp-based calculation, so it remains accurate even when you switch to other tabs or minimize the browser. The audio notification will still play when the timer completes.
How does the session counter work? +
The session counter tracks how many work pomodoros you have completed. After every 4 work sessions, the timer automatically switches to a long break instead of a short break. The counter resets when you use the reset button.
